Oaklandish has long championed local culture and community. As part of our ongoing creative work with the brand, we developed custom lettering for an apparel release that translated Oaklandish’s established identity into a distinctive typographic expression. We’ve been a part of Oaklandish’s creative team in many forms. Ivan Lima has been providing art direction and design to Oaklandish since 2011, an era of tremendous growth for the company and our design, helping them brand their other businesses, as well as other businesses throughout the Bay Area.
Designed to live on apparel, the script treatment balances legibility with personality, creating a piece that feels at home in the brand’s broader visual world. The design was worn by Oakland hip-hop artist Too $hort and later featured in Blindspotting, the film by Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal.
A typographic statement with roots in the culture that inspired it.
